Compare providers
| Provider | Best fit | Billing model |
|---|---|---|
| OpenWeather | An application combining current weather, forecast intervals and alerts through a documented product family. | Product-specific subscriptions and usage allowances |
| WeatherAPI.com | An app accepting city names, postal codes or coordinates and needing a compact location-and-forecast response. | Monthly plans with call allowances |
| Open-Meteo | A team choosing explicit weather variables or comparing model output rather than consuming a fixed weather-card payload. | Commercial monthly call budgets |
| Tomorrow.io | A workflow connecting weather fields to operating decisions, where the required fields and forecast intervals can be specified in advance. | Plan-specific weather API allowances |
| Visual Crossing | Historical weather joins, reporting and backfills that benefit from a consistent date-range interface. | Record-based weather data plans |
| Weatherbit | An integration with a fixed daily forecast schema that may later need air-quality, agriculture or energy data. | Subscriptions with daily and per-second limits |
The order is not a performance ranking. The right shortlist depends on the output, coverage and license you need.
Which workload are you building?
| Workload | What to specify |
|---|---|
| Weather inside an app | Current conditions and hourly forecasts, stable coordinates, local time and an explicit commercial license. |
| Weather joined to business records | A repeatable historical time range, observation/model provenance and a documented definition of each daily aggregate. |
| Operational alerts | Geographic coverage, update cadence, alert availability and measurable lead time for the hazard you act on. |

Compare cost on the same unit
For 10,000 location-day lookups, record the requested variables and hourly/daily resolution first. A plan counting calls and a plan counting returned weather records can charge different amounts for the same HTTP request count.
| Provider | Price and allowance check |
|---|---|
| OpenWeather | Compare the allowance for the exact API product; a free current-weather allowance is not the price of One Call history. |
| WeatherAPI.com | The pricing page lists a $7/month Starter plan with 3 million calls and a seven-day forecast; other capabilities remain plan-specific. Checked October 28, 2026. |
| Open-Meteo | Requests with many variables, locations or long time ranges can count as multiple API calls. Free keyless access is for non-commercial use. |
| Tomorrow.io | Compare the forecast/timeline product and field access in the current plan, not a platform-wide starting price. |
| Visual Crossing | Estimate returned records for hourly and multi-day queries before comparing cost with request-based plans. |
| Weatherbit | Compare daily request limits and separate historical quotas. Paid prices were not machine-readable in the reviewed pricing page, so no dollar estimate is asserted here. |
How to evaluate the shortlist
- Fix ten coordinates across your actual service area. Use the same UTC issue time, units and hourly window for every provider.
- Save the forecast before the event. Compare later against an agreed observation source; a successful HTTP response does not establish forecast accuracy.
- Check missing values, elevation, timezone boundaries and precipitation accumulation periods before calculating an error statistic.
- Measure p50/p95 request latency, throttling and billed units separately from forecast error. Repeat across several weather conditions.
- Confirm caching, attribution, redistribution and commercial-use terms for the exact plan. A keyless endpoint is not automatically a commercial entitlement.
Use a common endpoint contract
POST /api/v1/weather/forecastReview the request contract and tell us the coverage you need. Access requires enablement; this endpoint does not execute or bill requests yet.
