Event Registry API: endpoints, pricing model and alternatives

The NewsAPI.ai platform for article retrieval, concept queries and clustered news events.

When Event Registry fits

A research workflow that needs concepts and events as first-class objects, not just a list of matching article URLs.

Check before integrating

NewsAPI.ai/Event Registry is a different service from newsapi.org. Resolve concepts and distinguish articles from events before comparing quotas or result counts.

Provider endpoint reference

This is Event Registry's documented interface. Its credentials and response format are separate from an All Them APIs account.

Event Registry endpoint
POST https://eventregistry.org/api/v1/article/getArticles

Authentication: API key in apiKey
Inputs: JSON keyword or conceptUri, dateStart/dateEnd, resultType and apiKey
Output: Requested article results or aggregates; event queries use a separate interface.

Pricing model and production access

Plan-specific query and data access. Check the current plan against the requested article/event result types and archive. No universal token-to-article exchange rate is assumed.

For 10,000 usable articles, track duplicate rate, results per page and paid units. A request returning ten truncated articles is not equivalent to one returning a hundred licensed full-text records. Include the production-plan minimum in the comparison.

Migration notes

Concept URIs are provider identifiers, not plain keyword strings. Keep event grouping separate from article deduplication and re-resolve entities when moving to a different service.

Keep provider-specific authentication and response mapping inside an adapter. Preserve source timestamps and identifiers so changing a provider does not silently change the meaning of stored records.

Event Registry alternatives

Other providers in this category
AlternativeWhen to evaluate it
Event Registry vs NewsAPIA straightforward metadata-and-source-link integration where article discovery matters more than a full-text corpus.
Event Registry vs GNewsA compact article-search integration that needs a documented step from delayed evaluation to real-time paid access.
Event Registry vs NewsData.ioA news pipeline that explicitly separates recent collection, historical queries and specialist feeds.
Event Registry vs NewsCatcherMonitoring and analysis where duplicate handling, query validation and structured article enrichment are central requirements.
Event Registry vs World News APIA filtered news application that can budget using a documented points-per-request and per-result model.

A fair evaluation

  1. Prepare a fixed set of entity names, ambiguous names, exact phrases and multilingual topics. Pin the publication window and record the retrieval time.
  2. Score a blinded sample for topic relevance and entity precision. Count unique stories separately from syndicated copies and repeated URLs.
  3. Measure publication-to-availability delay on a monitored source set. Article timestamps alone do not reveal when the provider indexed them.
  4. Check missing bodies, truncation, source URLs and archive cutoffs on the exact plan. Store metadata and hashes where article-storage rights are not established.
  5. Record requests, pagination, credits or points per usable article. Confirm publisher rights and permitted storage/redistribution independently of API access.
