NewsCatcher vs World News API: API differences, pricing and integration

Compare NewsCatcher and World News API for news APIs: output, access requirements, billing units and the work needed to switch.

The short answer

NewsCatcher emphasizes search controls, clustering and enrichment. World News API exposes a straightforward filtered search with point accounting. Inspect entity precision, duplicate clusters and quota headers on a shared sample.

Choose by the task you need to complete
ProviderA good reason to choose itImportant caveat
NewsCatcherMonitoring and analysis where duplicate handling, query validation and structured article enrichment are central requirements.Validate actual source coverage and subscription access. A clustering feature does not establish topic relevance or remove the need to audit publisher rights.
World News APIA filtered news application that can budget using a documented points-per-request and per-result model.Search points and article counts are different units. A text field being available does not grant unrestricted redistribution of the publisher's article.

Billing model and plan checks
ProviderBilling modelWhat to check
NewsCatcherSubscription and workload-specific limitsUse the subscription plan's search, historical and enrichment limits. No unverified entry price or universal per-article cost is asserted.
World News APIPoints for requests and returned resultsSearch News is documented as 1 point plus 0.01 points per returned result. Check daily quota and other endpoint charges separately. Checked October 28, 2026.

For 10,000 usable articles, track duplicate rate, results per page and paid units. A request returning ten truncated articles is not equivalent to one returning a hundred licensed full-text records. Include the production-plan minimum in the comparison.

For a buying decision, calculate total spend divided by accepted outputs at your expected volume. Keep free evaluation access, paid production access, annual commitments and overages separate. We have not measured a cost or speed winner for this pair.

NewsCatcher: migration check

Preserve duplicate/cluster identifiers separately from article identifiers. Compare deduplicated story counts, not only raw hit counts, when replacing a simpler feed.

World News API: migration check

Map hyphenated parameter names explicitly and persist quota headers. Offset paging and provider availability limits should not be treated as a guaranteed complete export.

How to test them fairly

  1. Prepare a fixed set of entity names, ambiguous names, exact phrases and multilingual topics. Pin the publication window and record the retrieval time.
  2. Score a blinded sample for topic relevance and entity precision. Count unique stories separately from syndicated copies and repeated URLs.
  3. Measure publication-to-availability delay on a monitored source set. Article timestamps alone do not reveal when the provider indexed them.
  4. Check missing bodies, truncation, source URLs and archive cutoffs on the exact plan. Store metadata and hashes where article-storage rights are not established.
  5. Record requests, pagination, credits or points per usable article. Confirm publisher rights and permitted storage/redistribution independently of API access.

Record the plan, request settings, time window and acceptance rules with every run. That makes a later result interpretable when a vendor changes a model, source set or pricing tier.
