When NewsData.io fits
A news pipeline that explicitly separates recent collection, historical queries and specialist feeds.
Check before integrating
Credits, result counts, delay and full-content access depend on the endpoint and tier. A latest-news request is not an unrestricted archive search.
Provider endpoint reference
This is NewsData.io's documented interface. Its credentials and response format are separate from an All Them APIs account.
GET https://newsdata.io/api/1/latest
Authentication: API key in apikey
Inputs: apikey, q, language, country; page continuation token
Output: results with article IDs and metadata, plus a nextPage token when available.| Capability | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Search workflow | Latest, archive, crypto and other specialist products |
| Article body | Full-content and enrichment access depend on plan |
| Archive access | Archive is a separate endpoint/product |
| Pagination | Opaque nextPage token |
| Production access | Free delay and production needs require a plan check |
| Cost driver | Credits, endpoint and returned-record allowance |
Pricing model and production access
API credits and plan-specific access. Calculate credits for the chosen endpoint and returned records. Dollar values were not reliably rendered in the reviewed documentation, so none are asserted here.
For 10,000 usable articles, track duplicate rate, results per page and paid units. A request returning ten truncated articles is not equivalent to one returning a hundred licensed full-text records. Include the production-plan minimum in the comparison.
Migration notes
Treat nextPage as an opaque token, not a page number. Keep provider article IDs alongside canonical URLs when deduplicating between latest and archive responses.
Keep provider-specific authentication and response mapping inside an adapter. Preserve source timestamps and identifiers so changing a provider does not silently change the meaning of stored records.
NewsData.io alternatives
| Alternative | When to evaluate it |
|---|---|
| NewsData.io vs NewsAPI | A straightforward metadata-and-source-link integration where article discovery matters more than a full-text corpus. |
| NewsData.io vs GNews | A compact article-search integration that needs a documented step from delayed evaluation to real-time paid access. |
| NewsData.io vs NewsCatcher | Monitoring and analysis where duplicate handling, query validation and structured article enrichment are central requirements. |
| NewsData.io vs World News API | A filtered news application that can budget using a documented points-per-request and per-result model. |
| NewsData.io vs Event Registry | A research workflow that needs concepts and events as first-class objects, not just a list of matching article URLs. |
A fair evaluation
- Prepare a fixed set of entity names, ambiguous names, exact phrases and multilingual topics. Pin the publication window and record the retrieval time.
- Score a blinded sample for topic relevance and entity precision. Count unique stories separately from syndicated copies and repeated URLs.
- Measure publication-to-availability delay on a monitored source set. Article timestamps alone do not reveal when the provider indexed them.
- Check missing bodies, truncation, source URLs and archive cutoffs on the exact plan. Store metadata and hashes where article-storage rights are not established.
- Record requests, pagination, credits or points per usable article. Confirm publisher rights and permitted storage/redistribution independently of API access.
